Cushion Fabricator

Overview:  A cushion fabricator employee performs the fabrication of foam cushions in a variety of methods to be used in the assembly of aircraft seats. A cushion fabrication employee works under the direct supervision of department lead, as well as the operations manager.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Able to read work instructions, Engineering drawings, and follow tolerances given to fabricate cushions. Cushions are fabricated using various types of fire retardant foam products. Tolerances typically range from +/- 1/8" to 1/4".
  • Responsible for reading and understanding orders and plans for assembly
  • Able to follow specific instructions related to the assembly of each cushion
  • Able to take direction from supervisors regarding the days focus
  • Reports any errors to the lead
  • Able to use cutting tools, such as band saws, knives, and create set-ups.
  • Able to follow proper safety protocols with equipment.
  • Able to use measuring devices, rulers, calipers, measuring tape, angle gauges, etc.
  • Must observe close attention to detail
  • Clean work area at the end of each shift
  • Adheres to all Flight Line Product safety guidelines, including the wearing of proper safety gear, and the proper procedures for handling potentially hazardous material.
  • Maintains a safe and clean work environment by complying with procedures, rules and regulations.
  • Contributes to the team environment by accomplishing designated tasks.
  • Able to work closely with others in a manufacturing shop environment.
  • Able to learn and repeat the same task.
  • Able to use adhesives.
  • Open to other duties deemed necessary by the lead.
  • Must pay close attention to detail especially when putting together more complicated or small parts. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to mentor and direct the work of others.

  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment.

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to work in an industrial environment to including walking in the repair shop floor, standing, sitting, use of hands to finger, handle or feel and reach with hands or arms. 
  • Able to lift 10 pounds regularly through the day. 
  • Job requires standing for 8 hours or more each day. 
  • Repetitive hand and arm movements required when assembling most pieces which includes but is not limited to: side to side movement holding a 5 pound glue gun needed to spray chemical adhesive. 
  • No known allergies to adhesives. 
  • Must be able to maintain a high degree of visual attention throughout their shift looking for deficiencies. 
  • Exposure to loud manufacturing noise.

Education Requirements:  High school diploma or GED required.  At least 1 - 3 years-experience in related position preferred.
